Michael Thompson

Artist member since 2020
Toronto, Ontario

My name is Michael Thompson and I'm a third-year illustration student at OCADU, downtown Toronto. You can find more examples of my work at Mthompson.ca. Along with years of academic, personal, and professional experience with design and visual arts, I'm going to be published in multiple arts review magazines in 2020, and I'm constantly working on getting myself out there as an artist. I love working with people and I'm very outgoing. I have years of experience in Adobe Photoshop and professional experience in image post-production.

What places do you hang out in Toronto?

I'm usually at GladDay Bookshop, Starbucks, SecondCup, or the AGO

What artists do you admire right now?

Honestly, one of my peers, Hyunsun Park. She makes amazing works that are filled with personality and fun.

How long have you been creating art?

I've been creating art for about 5 years. I was in musical theatre and choir growing up but slowly my interest turned to visual arts instead. In grade 11 I decided I wanted to go to OCADU so I took all the required courses that year and got in the next year!

Why is it important for people to have art in their home or life?

The art in your home is a personal reflection of your personality and taste, and that varies for every single person. I have all types of art surrounding my work desk at home and theyre all pieces that gave me happiness the second I saw them.

Beverage of choice

If I'm in need of some caffeine, then a vanilla soy latte. If I'm just drinking it for taste, then the Strawberry Cream Frap at Starbucks.

Best season of the year in Toronto

Best season everywhere is fall, but very early fall. Like the last few days of heat in the summer when the wind starts to be chilly so you can still wear your summer clothes but you get to layer a nice (beat up) jean jacket on top of that.
